There is a persistent misconception that Jewish law forbids Jews from becoming organ donors. This is false. Mainstream halachic opinion had shifted to favor organ donation well before I was born. (For accounts of the variety of opinions which are current in Jewish law, please see the Halachic Organ Donor Society.)

And me personally? I side with the rabbis who consider the standard medical criteria for brain-stem death to be good enough, so I just marked the "donor" tickybox on my driver's license application.
