Night of 7/7: Camp Verde, AZ. Determined that sleeping on the couch in the back of the moving truck is a far inferior option to finding an actual campground.
7/8: Side-trip to the Grand Canyon. Decided that the best time to visit is in fact in the winter - snow clears the dust out of the air, and you won't bake during the afternoon. Slept at a campground in Kaibab national forest.
7/9: Woke up far too early due to incorrect tent placement. We'd gotten turned around in the dark and twisty roads, and set it up in a place that would get shade from the evening rather than morning sun. I seem able to function better on inadequate sleep, so I drove us from the campsite to the New Mexico border, where![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
zeightyfiv took over. We got to Grants, NM, which is about 80mi shy of Albuquerque, and decided to stop for Shabbat.
7/10: We've had real showers and slept in a real bed, in an air conditioned hotel room. I'm spending as much of the day as possible lying down with my feet elevated, to speed recovery from the lingering moving aches.
Plans for 7/11: Leave earlyish (inasmuch as possible with the time zone change) and make it out of New Mexico before we stop for the night. It's a bit of a long drive, but there don't seem to be any more campgrounds until Texas. We might stop near either Lake Meredith/Alibates flint quarry (TX), or Black Kettle National Grassland (OK) for the night.
