There's some scariness of falldownishness during take-off and landing because of the rather archaic radio beacon systems (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instrument_landing_system) used to mark the approach path, but mid-flight I don't think there's much of any concern. The reason you're not supposed to use cell phones is because it causes bad ground-interference, not because it endangers the plane. c.c
