Ages and ages ago, I read a thing about how artists who work with color media are better at identifying differences & changes in colors, as well as naming them. It makes intuitive sense, 'cause even self-taught you train yourself to notice. And the labels helpfully supplied on the paint tube make pretty good signposts.
