Holiday, duplex

I hope those of you who celebrate it had a great Shavuot, and that Americans in general had a good Memorial Day.

I've been settling into my summer internship well, and it's keeping me busy with worthwhile tasks. (Unlike classes, which often seem to keep one busy with non-worthwhile tasks.) I went ocean kayaking last Thursday, and must say that it's beautiful out there. Hoping/planning to make that a weekly outing. Pictures may follow.

Back when it was an unfinished batch of songs, I linked to a few items from [personal profile] solarbird's Cracksman Betty. And then it grew up and became an album. :D You should go listen, particularly if you like rock, folk, or alternate history tales. (My favorite tracks are "Song for a Blockade Runner" and "Columbia", but YMMV.)

Concert

Saw the Boston Baroque perform at the New England Conservatory, this evening. Much shiny.

Now, I go fall over.

Link of the Day

ETA: Huh. The embed code doesn't work. That's a first for YouTube.

ETA2: Fixed. The HTTPS option seems to be what broke it. Go figure.

PSA: Violins

If you or anyone you know is in the market for a violin, the ebay market is currently flooded with them. I snagged a rather nice instrument at 5% of its ordinary retail price.

Somewhat to my embarrassment, I now own two violins. I placed a fairly low bid on the instrument mentioned above, more or less expecting to be outbid (similar ones were going for higher, but in retrospect those were mostly a flashier model). In the mean time, I found a different seller who was willing to haggle over the price of a cheap student model, and bought that. Forgetting about the first auction until I recieved the e-mail telling me that I'd won it. Err, whoops?

I need another project like I need a hole in the head, but I seem to have embarked on one anyway. At least it should be fun.
